Charles River Watershed Association, The
Who We AreOne of the country's first watershed organizations, Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA) was formed in 1965 in response to public concern about the declining condition of the Charles River. Since its earliest days of advocacy, CRWA has figured prominently in major clean-up and watershed protection efforts, working with government officials and citizen groups from 35 Massachusetts watershed towns from Hopkinton to Boston. Cambridge Carnival International
August 24, 2008

Caribbean Carnival is a colorful and festive celebration that is rooted in African traditions. Carnival secretly allowed public communication and cultural bonding for the African slave cultures from as far back as the 1600s. The rich rhythmic musicality and culture of the Caribbean can be seen as revelers masquerade through the streets in dazzling handmade costumes dancing to the beat of Carnival!

Cambridge Carnival in Massachusetts, is one of twenty-four North American Caribbean-style carnivals that combine wire-bending, costumes, masks, music, steelpan, street-parades, dancing, food and craft exhibits, to display the cultural diversity of the countries and Caribbean islands, where transplanted Africans were placed.

Since its inception in 1992, Cambridge Carnival has grown from a small street fair to one of the most spectacular events in Cambridge and the Greater Boston area. This growth led to, in 2005, a change in venue from Central Sq. to its new home in Kendall Square. | cambridgecarnival.com

Dragon Boat Festival
Join us on June 8th, 2008 for the exciting 28th Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival of Boston.

Hong Kong dragon boats are slim, teakwood racers with a hand-painted dragon's head at the prow and a flashy tail at the stern. Decorated in brilliant Chinese colors, each boat holds a crew of 18 sitting side by side, a steersperson at the rudder and a drummer whose beat sets the pace for the crew. Dragon boat racing is unique for the speed of fast paddling.

Today, the Dragon Boat Festivals have become more popular not only in the United States, but also worldwide. Held back in 1979, the first US Dragon Boat Festival was used as a vehicle to promote Asian culture and a chance to bring together diverse communities from Boston and surrounding areas.
