Always a leader in conservation and energy efficient programs, Cambridge businesses are at the forefront of the “Green” movement. The GoGreen Awards recognize Cambridge businesses for their efforts to preserve the environment and quality of life in Cambridge. In 2004, the GoGreen Awards added a new category for Climate/Energy efforts given to companies that undertake outstanding climate protection efforts. It is City policy that all new construction and major renovation building projects will be “green buildings” as defined by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
Cambridge Climate Leader Program
The Climate Leader Program offers Cambridge businesses and organizations a way to be part of the community-wide effort to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. The program is a joint effort of the Community Development Department and the Public Works Department. To participate, a business or organization submits a completed agreement to support the goals of the Cambridge Climate Protection Plan and to actively work on GHG emission reducing actions involving energy, transportation, and waste reduction. The City commits to continue its own emission reduction efforts, publicly recognize the efforts and accomplishments of Climate Leaders, and to develop programs to support Climate Leaders.
